Focus On: Add-On Dollies and Trucks* For pianos which need to be moved frequently from one location to another (such as in a church or school), a set of pi- ano dollies or a piano truck can make the job much easier and protect flooring sur- faces as well. The larger wheels of piano dollies (shown with original caster in photo above) make it possible to easily push a piano across carpeted surfaces. Most available dollies and trucks feature wheels which swivel to facili- tate moving a piano around tight corners. The wheels of dollies and trucks are typically made of rubber or black polyure- thane, providing protection for wood and laminate flooring which could be easily dam- aged by steel or brass wheels. * Trucks are similar to dollies but have a unified assembly (everything is connnect- ed together) whereas dollies are more than one individual part (usually 2) each of which must be attached to the piano. The Piano Owner's Heads-Up Guide to Important Piano Maintenance A grand piano truck protects wooden floor. Piano dollies and trucks are available for all sizes and styles of pianos. Once in- stalled, they typically stay with the piano for good, so that it's a once-and-done procedure. Note: Dollies and trucks do elevate the height of the piano a bit (usually in the 2—2 1/2 inches). For grand pianos, the origi- nal casters will need to be removed so that the legs rest directly on the sockets of the piano truck (see photo above).
